The cookbook Everything Tastes Better with Bacon celebrates all the ways that bacon makes our lives better. This is not just a cookbook, however. It is a well-researched guide to understanding this piece of pork paradise and how to incorporate it into (almost) any dish. You’ll find lots of recipes, 70 total, covering not just breakfast, but salads, sides, pasta, and even desserts.
The cookbook has good directions and offers many little side tips and flavors, such as spreads, sauces, and the like. One fun chapter, called Classic and Forbidden Pleasures, offers unique ways to use bacon, including the “Peanut Butter and You-Guessed-It Sandwich.” Perry gives a list of 14 peanut butter, bacon, and more sandwiches, including PB bacon orange, PB bacon pineapple, and the classic PB bacon and banana.
I love cookbooks that feature a photo for each recipe, and this book misses the mark just a bit in this regard, but there are plenty of full-page photos to help you visualize your finished dish. As with all good cookbooks, in addition to the recipes are some facts and information to better understand this wonderful ingredient. Finally, Perry includes a list of artisan bacon sources. It’s a short list, but a good place to get started on your search for high-quality, great-tasting bacon.
All-in-all, a nice bacon cookbook and a perfect gift for the bacon lover in your life.
